How to Avoid the 7 Most Common Mistakes Selecting Tuxedos

Common Mistake 1:

Selecting Formalwear from a catalog or magazine without seeing it in person.

Seeing is believing when selecting tuxedos. Although, they can look really good in a catalog or magazine, more than one groom has been disappointed when the tuxedo has arrived.

Visiting formalwear specialty shops is a must. Only then can you know for sure that a particular tuxedo is right for you. These stores carry designer and traditional styles as well as complete line of formalwear accessories. DON'T order tuxedos from a catalog!

Common Mistake 2
:

Wearing the wrong tuxedo for your wedding.

The style and color of the formalwear the groom selects will depend on several variables: his coloring and build; the bride's and bridesmaids' dress color and style; the season; the time of day; and the tastes of the bridal couple.

To get an idea of what is available and appropriate, consult the formalwear professionals at Lake Shore Formals.

Common Mistake 3
:

Renting discount formalwear in the belief you'll receive first-rate, high-quality current tuxedos.

Beware of discount formalwear! Quality in formalwear is more than a matter of cost. If you pay a lot less, you'll probably receive a lot less. Quality has to do with current designer styles, versatility and elegance.

The groom owes it to the bride to look as good as she does on that special day. Understand that you may "pay the price" if you select a discount tuxedo. Never make price the determining factor in selecting a formalwear specialist.

Common Mistake 4
:

Not having the measurements taken by a formalwear specialist.

Properly fitted formalwear is a must for comfort as well as looks. A store that can fit you properly gives you more control over fit and any size changes or alterations.

When out-of-state measurements are required, insist your men get fitted in a formalwear specialty shop. Then the completed measurement forms should be mailed back to your tuxedo specialty shop, or to the groom who will pass them on to the tuxedo shop. It makes a difference!

Common Mistake 5
:

Measurements not received in advance.

No tuxedo shop has an endless amount of inventory, especially during busy months. Therefore, all measurements should be received at least three weeks prior to your wedding date. This will ensure the availability of the tuxedo you have selected.

The bride or groom should check with their formalwear specialist three weeks prior to the wedding date to see whose measurements are not in.

Common Mistake 6:

Not ordering shoes.

Shoes are usually rented from the formalwear store in order to maintain consistency and to complete the formal look.

Common Mistake 7:

Not trying on your tuxedo at the formalwear shop before the wedding.

When the wedding date is approaching, it is very important that all the men in your party try on their tuxedos BEFORE the day of the wedding.

Although alterations are minimized when fittings have been done in the store, you should still try on everything. Then you will know if you need any adjustments or replacements. Most alterations can be done while you wait. It is important to take these few extra minutes to try on the tuxedo in advance.
